Biographical Information

T. Pierce Brown

T. Pierce Brown was born in a log cabin near Doyle, Tennessee on April 13, 1923. His parents were Horace Herbert and Mattie Evelyn Howell Brown. He was the youngest child in a family of four children.

While in high school at Sparta, he preached and baptized some, but was not planning to preach full time. He attended the Tennessee Polytechnic Institute at Cookeville studying electrical engineering until Pearl Harbor was bombed, when he enlisted in the Air Force. He flew in B-17's as a bombardier and gunnery instructor, and started studying Greek by correspondence while in the service. He married Tomijo White of Cookeville on July 7, 1945 to which union were born two sons, Frank and Hilary. Tomijo graduated from T.P.I. majoring in business and did some advanced work for a teacher's certificate. She taught in elementary schools in Tennessee and Florida. Her articles were published in Gospel Advocate, Firm Foundation and 1st/21st Century Christianity.

Brother Brown attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, Southwest Missouri State Teacher's College, Abilene Christian College, Garrett Biblical Institute, Northwestern University and Harding Graduate School.

He wrote about 2,000 articles published in such gospel papers as Firm Foundation, Gospel Advocate, World Evangelist, Restorer, 20th Century Christian, Christian Bible Teacher, Voice of Truth, Tennessee Valley Christian, Rocky Mountain Christian, Gospel Light, Gospel Herald, Gospel Gazette and others. He writings also include a workbook on personal evangelism entitled 'Christianity in Action', one on teacher training entitled 'Teach With Success', and one on Christian living, entitled 'The Mind of Christ'. He published two books of articles called 'Pertinent Principles', a Bible study guide called 'Condensed Circular Cyclopedia' and a book of poems.

Through the years he served the Sycamore Church of Christ in Cookeville, Tennessee as an associate minister, director of personal evangelism, director of the One Nation Under God program, and as an elder.

For several years after retirement he continued preaching and teaching each week, in addition to teaching up to 3000 students in Africa by correspondence, and working daily with 'One Nation Under God', a project that put the gospel into every home in the US and Canada by means of direct mail.

Brother Brown passed away at the age of 85 on Friday, August 1, 2008 in Cookeville, Tennessee and was buried in Crest Lawn Cemetery.
